Better late than never posting about my reading from last month. There is a little bit of everything in this list. Happy Reading!

Mary Poppins by P. L. Travers: Five Stars

I started reading this book after watching Saving Mr. Banks. I recommend reading the original series and watching this movie to gain new insight into P. L. Travers and her beloved character.

Caste by Isabel Wilkerson: Four Stars

I highly recommend listening to this book. While the writing is exquisite, the reading slogs because of the deep historical content. I read it for a book club, so I was more concerned about understanding the context for further discussion and completing it in a timely manner. It is a book worth reading for the end, but understand it is based on a specific perspective.

The Ragged Edge of Night by Olivia Hawker: Five Stars

This book is set during WWII, and there are obvious connections to the time period. But, because this book is based on real life accounts, there is an element of perspective and intensity that is not always experienced in a fictional book. This is a book of unforgettable characters during an unforgettable time.

Charles Todd's Ian Rutledge Mysteries Books 1-3: Five Stars

It took a little while for me to get the literary nuance of this series, but once I caught on to the unique aspect of Ian Rutledge's character, I have not been able to stop listening. Samuel Gilles is an excellent reader. I particularly enjoy learning more about post-WWI history.

Poets of the Month:

Elizabeth Bishop

Marianne Moore

Edna St. Vincent Millay
