Even though summer has come to an end and the autumnal season has begun, I am still turning the leaves of books. Here are my books for this month.

The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan: Five Stars. This was one of the best books I have read this year. I could not have predicted the ending, which is only one reason why I liked it. There is one element that I thought the author took a bit too far, but the resolution of the other elements made up for it.

Passing by Nella Larsen: Five Stars. Given our current cultural divisions, I thought this book to be a relevant read. Even though I couldn't to relate to the racial tensions, there are truisms that many women and men can attest to from their own experiences. This book is also well-written, and I think I'll be reading more books by this author.

All the Devils Are Here by Louise Penny: Five Stars. Once again five stars are not enough. Louise Penny has done it again! I can't say more or I will spoil all the reasons to read it. And read the Acknowledgments!

Bruno, Chief of Police by Martin Walker: Four Stars. This is a new series for me that I am listening to on Audible. So far, I am enjoying it. I also think this first book is relevant to the cultural tensions in our society. On a lighter note, what's not to love about a series that includes a Bassett Hound!

Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament by Farrel, Jones, and Dornacher: Four Stars. This is the third study I have completed by these authors. I spread it out over the course of a year while reading through the Immerse Reading Bible. Approaching the study in this way helped me to see the connections between the books and the specific scriptures. I didn't spend time doing the creative parts of this study the way I have with others. But, I still learned new insights about how the Old Testament reveals Christ as the Messiah.

Immerse: Prophets Immerse Reading Bible: Five Stars. Reading the prophets in this format was extremely insightful. I don't know that I have ever read all the prophetic books in their entireties, so I learned many new aspects of this time period and how the prophets played their own specific roles.
