Poets write about major events, but most often we describe them within small moment. One of my favorite poems is by William Carlos Williams.

There is so much mystery packed into this dependable poem. It is precisely what it is. Yet, it alludes to more.

Small moments are defining in ways we don't anticipate. Here's another William Carlos Williams poem that comes to mind every time I buy plums.

This poem is also about being considerate after being inconsiderate. It is a tongue-in-cheek apology anticipating a bantering response. It is a love poem, the sweetness and coldness of affection in the same moment.

The best poems are the ones that inspire us to write our own. Here is my own tribute to William Carlos Williams from one of my "small moments."
