Living in Color
When I was in third grade, I wrote my first poem--a haiku about the color yellow. I'm certain I did not choose the theme color of my poem because yellow has never been my favorite color. I remember struggling with yellow things I liked and words that fit the 5-7-5 syllable form of a haiku. I also remember feeling that it was a stronger poem because I wrote about a color I like but don't love. It would have been too easy to write about my pink room.
Since that first poem, I've written others that highlighted a color directly or indirectly. I don't know that any have challenged the way that first one did. But, I love the feeling evoked by these poems. They remind me of the color I was living in that moment.
What color are you living today?
