Perspective: Until the Race Is Run, Until the Journey's Done

My youngest son and I escaped the house to go for a walk. It was drizzly, which means I probably would have skipped walking outside any other day. But, walking is one way we can maintain some well-being during this stay-at-home request.

As we walked we talked, especially about his classes. We laughed as we talked about my husband clearing away some mental cobwebs to help with a economics problem. Although he majored in economics, he doesn't use that knowledge on a daily basis as a computer software engineer.

Suddenly, I realized whether my role of the moment is as a wife, a mom, a novice-to-veteran home educator, or a homemaker, I have continued applying my writing major. I may have written less than I liked during certain phases, but I've always been a writer.

My dad and I met for coffee through Zoom this week. We chatted about several topics, but my current writing project came up. I decided to change a few things about the publishing process this time. One change has been to hire an editorial and formatting team. I've done both of these parts of the process for my other projects. Yet, I need second and third pairs of eyes. I can format my work, but it's not my favorite part of the process. I know I need better cover designs and hired someone to create this, too. I am learning that I want to write more than edit.

The subtitle of this post references the song I mentioned in my Monday post. I am amazed how writing has remained part of my journey. As we hear about essential workers, I realize more and more about how writing is my essential work.

And so, I journey on.
