"Some Assembly Required"
While organizing our libraries (we all have our own precious stash of books), I discovered I needed to purchase another bookcase. I bought a conservatively priced five-shelf one from Target. Well, I bought a box with a nice picture of an espresso bookcase on the front, filled with laminate-covered boards, assorted screws, and directions. Although I had to help my oldest son with algebra and make a three-course dinner for my family, I opened the box at 8:00 in the morning and finished at 8:00 in the evening.
Therefore, I have decided to dedicate this post to the phrase "some assembly required." Here are some synonyms for the vague term "some":
Webster's Thesaurus lists "few, a few, a little, a bit, part of, more than a few, more than a little, any, a number, an amount, a part, a portion, more or less."
Roget's Thesaurus adds little clarity with "certain, divers, various, sundry, about, around, approximately, nearly, almost, in a way, to a degree."
My Thesaurus would specify by including "more than anticipated, vast, complex, hours of, ridiculous amount, uncertain."
At least, I am certain about one thing. I now have a shelf for my Webster's and Roget's. For that, the "some" was worth the effort required.
