The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
Four Stars
I decided I wanted to read the book before I decide if I want to see the movie. I listened to Garth Stein's The Art of Racing in the Rain on Audible. It took a bit to get used to the narrator and to a dog who swears. Compared to other books I've read from the perspective of a first-person canine, I found myself wondering how Stein would handle certain aspects of his character's limitations. He manages to make it work and to keep Enzo's point of view believable. There are aspects of the story that I don't agree with philosophically, but Stein does remain consistent throughout the book. I have to admit, this book was not what I expected on many levels, and the story is an engaging one. As with most dog stories, have a box of tissues nearby.
