Which book would you like to live in for a week?
I was challenged through a comment about what TV show I would like to live in for a week to think about what book I would like to live in for a week. The challenge is extended to picking just one book. Of course, there are candidates on my shelves, but I will pick only one.
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
I read the unabridged version when I was 11 or 12. I found myself relating to Jane's struggle to belong and cheered her ability to rise above her circumstances. Her choice of vocation as a governess intrigued me. (After high school, I nannied for a summer and found out it isn't as romantic as it sounds, although it is rewarding.) The odd noises and harrowing circumstances in the house gave me chills. I wished I had not read it just before bed! But, the appeal of the book for me was the romance between Jane and Mr. Rochester along with his loyalty and her integrity. To date, I have several copies and have watched most of the film adaptations and one theatrical rendition. I have read many classics, but this one remains my favorite.
